Wed 19th May - Day 33, N of Congleton to Whaley Bridge (16 miles)
It was not a good start to the day, I woke at 03:30 to feel water dripping on me. The clear sky and low temperature had created a lot of condensation, all the insides of the tent were soaking and it had been dripping onto the sleeping bag. I used one of my shirts to dry most of it off but with everything damp I was not comfy so I had a mars bar for breakfast, threw everything in the rucsac and set off walking, it was 05:30!
Gritstone Way NE of Bollington |
I decided I would walk slow and stop to dry everything off when the sun got hot. Unfornately it clouded over.
At 08:30 I was just coming into Macclesfield and I stopped to speak to a couple, Paul & Lucy, on the tow path. Their offer of a cup of tea was to tempting to resist, so I followed them back to their holiday boat where they also cooked me bacon & egg.
Looking SW back to Bollington |
I said goodbye to the canals at Bollington and took to the hills once more by picking up the Gritstone Trail footpath, then branching off to get to my first campsite for 3 days just north of Whaley Bridge.
I must say that all the paths that I took while I was in Cheshire have been well marked and easy to find. The only fault I had was that nettles were everywhere and it doesn't help when you are in shorts.
I ended up with another blister so I am going to have 2 short days to give them all chance to recover.
The sun did come out enough at the campsite to get things dried.
554 miles completed.
